History of Salwar Kameez also known as shalwar kameez

Salwar kameez dates back to the 12th century, from the priod of Islamic Turko-Iranian rule which was then follwed by the Moghul empire in the region called now as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Moghul empire came with the iranian, afgani culture mixed and wore their traditional dress known as pathna Suits.

During those days it was men and women both used to wear this traditional dress but over the years Salwar Kameez has found its popularity more in women in India while the dress is still worn by both men and women in pakistan.

Although both the men and women Salwar kameez also known as Shalwar Kameez has different set of characteristics that distinguishes them from each other.

During the moghul empire the emperors and the Royal class used to wear the kameez and the Turkish pants which were known as salwars or shalwars.

Salwar Kameez popularity grew emensly due to itscomfartibility specially in summers which is very hot in this part of the region that it has become the national dress of Afghanistan and People of Pakistan call it as awam Dress meaning Dress of the people.

Salwar kameez also known as Shalwar kameez and is now worn in Asian region sprecially in countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. It is also sometimes known as Punjabi suit or Salwar Suit due to its popularity in the Punjab region in India and Pakistan.
